FUN FACTS ABOUT OUR FAVOURITE COOKING GAS, LPG
LPG was found for the first time in 1910 by an American chemist called Dr. Walter O. Snelling. Dr. Snelling found that LPG is found in petroleum, gasoline, diesel, and even heating oil. It is said, he discovered LPG by accident because of a complaint by a motorist. Dr. Walter O. Snelling was one of the few PhDs during those days and was popularly known as a persistent problem solver.
For being known as a problem solver, he was once approached by a car owner to share his ordeal. The motorist was confused that he filled the tank of his Ford car with gasoline and by the time he reached home, half of the gasoline was gone. This incident got Snelling interested in the mystery and he decided to investigate it.
After doing a thorough investigation, he discovered that the part of gasoline turned into vapor and the part which got vapourised is known as LPG.
LPG has a funny name and gets people confused about its state, whether it is a liquid or a gas. But in reality, the name is just perfect for LPG as we get to know more about its features. The fact is you will see LPG as a gas at normal temperature and pressure whereas it changes into a liquid when cooled down or put under pressure.
In cylinders, we use the liquified form of LPG and use this for BBQ in the summers. When this liquid leaves the cylinder and comes in contact with the normal temperature, it changes into a gas again. It can be easily stored and transported in different ways that make it flexible and practical to use. The options for storing LPG in liquid form ranges from refillable cylinders to tanks. LPG cylinder is mentioned as a cooking gas cylinder for domestic uses.
These cylinders make LPG perfect for cooking and barbecuing etc. In short, using LPG in liquid form has many advantages. The Olympic flame, which is an iconic symbol of the Olympic games is fuelled by LPG too. LPG is used in these flames as it is safer and easier for the bearers to carry the Olympic torch. It also helps the bearers by ensuring a strong and visible flame throughout the journey.
